Has anyone tried ginger or the other homeopathic options? Either Dramamine doesn't work for me or the effects from it make me sick.

I have been queasy on every trip out, puked just about every trip out, but cannot stand the drowsy meds.
I may give Scopace a try, but I hate "cotton mouth" even more, and hear that is a common side effect.

Having to piss while dressed as I do, would also deter me from meds that require lots of water to feel right.  :-\
Does chewing gum help with the cotton mouth, vs. gobs of water?

Quit being a princess!    >:D

I'm a firm believer in 80% solutions.    If you can take care of 80% of the issues, you're in business.  The return on investment drops rapidly as you approach 100%.
Since drowsiness represents the remaining 30% for me, I roll with it.  Dry mouth sounds like the final 5% if the scopace pills work out.  Small price in discomfort to solution a large price in discomfort.

(Obviously I'm just jealous of your AssHat!)

Regular exposure to ocean conditions helps to reduce my reaction to the rolling and churning.  By the end of the season I'm usually good to go without the help of meds.

Ginger probably would be my go to, but I goofed up and over did it the first time I tried ginger.
Should have taken it easy, but nooooo..... I had to go and chew on several pieces of candied ginger hoping to keep my chum down, but I think I over did my taste buds and now ginger on the salt is a chum trigger.   :-[

I also have the ginger capsules, but after a burp or two I get the ginger after taste and I can feel a chum rising.

I can understand the extended exposure to the rolling and churning in the ocean to gain some immunity to the queasy feeling.
Hopefully I'll get more time on the salt this year than last year.

The upside is that I haven't really been sick enough to wish I was dead while out in the salt.  I just chum a tad, and then I'm good for awhile.

Just slurp down some freshly shucked raw oysters. I'd say about a dozen or so should do it!

Do what?

Cure the queasy, or make the chum slick that much better?
I guess if the chum slick helps bring in the fish, I wouldn't have time to be queasy.

Good idea!

I experimented with them all during my offshore years.  What worked best for me was a combination of ginger and Bonine.  No side affects and less queasiness.

I just bought the less drowsy dramamine aka Meclazine.  I hope it works.

Craig,
Before you head out, I'd recommend taking whatever dose you intend and see if you have any side effects. I'd tried both flavors of Drammamine last year and decided that the side effects outweighed any possible benefit.

A big pinch of Kodiak between my cheek and gums works just fine for me.   :-*

You are the Doctor (you are aren't you?)  According to magic seaweed it looks to be pretty calm.  I am tempted to try without anything at all.  I only seem to get motion sick if I try reading while moving in a car.   If it only prevents you from throwing up, and not actually being nauseous, I think I prefer throwing up. It keeps my mind off the nausea.  I can stand to lose a little weight anyways.  I would try it now to see the side affects, but fortunately for me, I have already enjoyed a good porter from Bridgeport. How about a smaller dose, such as one tablet rather than the recommended two?

Allen, I hear if you actually swallow the juice created by the Kodiak in your mouth it also prevents vomiting.
