I'm just a little confused about the surf perch and walleye category.

Are we talkin Hyperprosopon agenteum or Stizostedion vitreum ?

I'm reading it as both.  Interesting category mixing salt and freshwater species together.  A big walleye could rack up serious points.

Well, the yak-exact thing is a bummer for me, as the only yak I have is an ancient Sevylor inflatable. While I have several other boats, including an inflatable dinghy, a canoe and my wherry, I do not own any "driftboats". (yessnoo is a nice guy, but as a southern boy and recent transplant, he probably should not be considered an expert on NW boat types. ::)) Noggin Yakker took a nice picture, which is part of the featured article, on our front page. http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/gallery/419_01_12_08_11_13_43.jpg

I bought my boat (the wherry), as a partial kit that I built, 12 years ago. It's from Pygmy Boats, which primarily sells kayak kits. http://www.pygmyboats.com/mall/WGWSPECS.asp I built it for many of the same reasons that I've heard people give for using kayaks: human-powered, low-impact and didn't need a developed launch site. I bought the wherry, instead of a yak, so that I could share the experience with my family. Those of you that have fished with me know that while it may have some advantages (like carrying an excessive amount of weight :-\), it's also a disadvantage to have an open boat for surf launches :o.

The credit crunch put a big tail spin on the local building trades, and I've returned back to school (after a 24 year break ::)). Since that means 3/5 of the family is now in college, it will probably be a while before I buy or (more likely) build a yak.

You'd need a mighty big pan for this fish...

I'd back that motion!

I liked having Pisco in race and he talked pretty good smack for someone who drives a wherry.   :P

Yep halibut and striped bass are in... if you signed up for the NCKA AOTY and catch your fish in northern California.

Regarding the panfish category for NWKA.  All sunfish, bluegills, yellow perch, crappie, rockbass are still included.   We've also added surfperch (family Embitocidae) and walleye (Sander vitreus, formerly Stizostedion vitreum).  Yes they get big so factor that in to your AOTY strategy.

I'll give it a go.  A - please PM your address and I'll send you a check.  This is good motivation to chase some different species.  Thanks to all who thunk it through.  Pardon me now while I go search for that Zara Spook...whoops...shhhh.

If you know you are going to participate yet and haven't signed up yet, can you please do so.  We're starting to solicit prizes for this event and having more people signed up will help the cause.  Thanks.

Allen,
I wonder if you might be able to generate more interest by listing all paid & registered participants on the leader board, even those sporting goose eggs (like me).

btw, I don't know if a final decision has been made, but my 2 pennies is that PS and his wherry should be grandfathered in...

I'll work on listing everyone on the leader board regardless of points.

Brian,
Thanks for the list, but, umm, is there a problem with my registration? I paid in full and registered, but I don't see Noggin Yakker on your list...  ???
