Guys, please get out your sharpies. With the sun starting to shine it blows out your AOTY photo and makes them impossible to judge. We HATE to DQ quality fish because of a bad photo. The below photo illustrates the problem. We also have seen a few fish come through with mouths that are not completely shut. Completely shut, means completely shut. Taking a few extra pics is also good insurance.

I don't think this fish should be DQ'd. Rather, I would give them credit for 19.5 inches.  They probably want credit for 19.75, but the standard practice in science for the resolution of analog measurements like this is that one can discern to the nearest 1/2 of the smallest legible increment on a device (in this photo that would be 1 inch marks).

That said, yes sharpies are a good idea.

We didn't DQ it, it was just an example of how washed out the photos can be.

I think this sounds fun. If I start now I would like to know when is the end of the tournament?

This is prime fishing season, plenty of time to start and score some points before the end of the year.

Keep checking the Leader Board on the AOTY website.  If you're expecting an entry to show up, the judges likely haven't gotten around to processing it yet.

Since we can't submit entries that are more than two weeks old, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect a ruling within two weeks? That would help some of us decide how to spend precious fishing time.

I think that's reasonable. I'd say if you don't see your fish within a few days ping an AOTY committee member for details. Noah, Lee, or Revjcp. To be honest I think we've been doing a crappy job of approving fish timely. My apologizes for the delays, I'm not a fan if making excuses but I will say time has been short for many of us these days. I mostly blame Lee and his salmon slaying obsession. Seriously man, your freezer isn't full yet? ;)

Its not full, and I've been working mandatory overtime for over 3 years.  So when I get a chance I go, often times I have to take leave just to go fishing.

It might seem reasonable to have your fish approved within 2 weeks, but reality is, we all have jobs and obligations, and AOTY doesn't pay us, so when I get free time, like yesterday, then it gets done.

Sorry to complain but , after having a photo disqualified, I took about a b'zillion pictures of every panfish I caught "just in case" the next time I went fishing. But then it still took over two weeks to get it looked at and I realized my back up photos would be too old to submit if I had to. I wasn't interested in taking another panfish trip when salmon were coming in. I really appreciate you guys volunteering to do this task.

Back up photos have no time limit,  only the original entry has to be within 2 weeks.
