So far I haven really had needed to remove my drive while out in the water, but I plan on trying to surf launching with it in (when things calm down) and am thinking I'd probably like to remove in when landing so I need to worry about damaging it.

Newbie question of the day: Where do you guys store the drive when you remove it?  With the turbo fins, I can't fit it into the front hatch and I'm not sure unleashing the beast to move it to the back storage is a good idea.  Just curious what you guys have figured out.

Between you and the drive, there is a bungee cord that goes left to right across the cockpit.  It's there to strap the drive down on launch and landings (keep it leashed too though)

Edit:  Not sure which model you have.  That might not be on your model.

+1 on on what Lee said.  Also make sure you have a drive leash.

Wow, I thought that bungie was there to hold the pedals cocked when you hooked it to one of them. I never heard of using in to hold the drive down. That is some good information!

At least for me, on the Adventure, using that bungie to hold the drive secure (out of the drive well) puts it in a fairly un-userfriendly position for surf landings.  All the hobie cockpits have different contours so you milage may vary depending on model.

I haven't used my Revo in a surf launch/landing just yet, but I want to think I have the safe stowage of the mirage drive figured out.  The bungee across the flippers didn't look like enough for me, so I took a 1/2" solid aluminum rod and cut it to the same length as the stainless bar that the mirage drive uses as a pivot/locking bar in the drive hole.

I can pop this aluminum bar in to the locking mechanism in the drive hole, lay the mirage drive down on it's side with the turbo fins laying across my 8" hatch, one pedal in the drive hole, and the other pointing straight up.  I can now use this added aluminum bar as a secure anchor point to wrap my mirage drive (bungee) leash around securely and then to an attachment point near the mast hole.  With this arrangement, the mirage drive is secure enough that I can lift the kayak off the ground with the mirage drive.  I'm pretty confident that it isn't going anywhere shy of a train wreck.

That looks pretty solid. I'm stealing your idea. I have some 1/2" round stock at work.

Have at Dino.   8)

Note the little tether I put on the bar.  This way I can clip it to a pad eye that I put inside the hull so it is at the ready, but not easily misplaced or in the way.

Insayn that is an awesome solution!  Don't do many surf landings in the local lakes but have needed a secure way to hold the drive.  Thanks for passing this along.  Weekend mod coming up!
