That would be one hell of an undertaking considering the complexity of WDFW's reg.  I've never bothered with anything other than the marine portion of Oregon's regs, so I can't speak for those.

I'm pretty sure every state puts our its own fishing regulations with information like when you can and can't fish for and keep.

That might be a good starting point, but if you aren't able to find that info let me know and I'll Google it for you.

:D all in jest my friend ... the Washington novel is enough to make my head hurt. I couldn't imagine trying to blend in other states in a useable format.

Are you guys still debating the fish for the year?

One other thing that I'm not fond of is stocked brooders counting  for AOTY.  This feels a lot like a "fish farm" situation.  Sure it's public and you still have to go catch them but I still don't like it.

If they were disallowed, there wouldn't be any way to verify that it's a brooder, just the fisherman's integrity.

Food for thought.

Whats the difference between your average stocked pellet head trout and a stocked brooder other than their obvious size difference?

We are still debating many subjects, including the fish of the year.

I don't think this one is going to fly.  My own goal is to keep the rules simple.  There are just too many shades of grey here.

As much as chasing brooders sounds like catching fish in a barrel, it's anything but.  Ask the guys who hit brooder lakes last winter, over and over and over again without success.

We're not trying to dog-pile on ya Justin, just providing arguments for the other side of the issue - it isn't anything personal.

It isn't as if they're easy to catch, trust me, they aren't.  I rate them as one of the most frustrating fish to catch.  You pretty much have to enjoy freezing your whatever off for many days of bewildering disappointment to bag one of these things.  The people that I talk to who catch them on a regular basis all seem to have plenty of extra time on their hands for whatever reason and are at the ponds targeting them almost every day of the week.  Even they will sometimes go through a season only catching one or two after all their time put in.

I'm a little late to the party on some of this, but here's my 2 cents.

Getting to 10 species is a real chore up here in South Central AK.  Like Kardinal & AKfishergal mentioned....pinks, sockeye, grayling, and char would be good additions to make it possible to get to 10.  Also, allowing us to enter rock sole in the flounder (small flatfish) or some type of sculpin category.

I would love to think that one of us could win AOTY, but like it's been mentioned already....lack of roads, remote areas with good fishing, bad weather, and very short fishing season all even the playing field when it comes to AK vs you folks further south.

Personally I would think someone from WA or OR that came up to AK for a week or two would have more of an advantage than an AK resident.

Any thoughts on prizes for individual achievements? (I.e. Biggest fish, highest single point value)

All in all, AOTY is a great way to turn a fun hobby into a friendly competition with some nice prizes.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Someone chime in if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can enter Sole as Flounder.

I notice looking at all the cool fish caught this year, your sappose to note the date and state if all info is not listed the fish should not count,a general location should be added list too, And a few of fish seemed gutted? Not the natural state of a fish.  I think a pic with the fish in the kayak or kayak in the back ground should be also, this is also something I need to work on too, as I forget my camera, and its harder to get a pic in the kayak. if this was a rule allot of fish some of mine included would not count.
