Great video.  Makes me want to be out on the ocean right now.  Nothing like sitting out there with the swells, the fish, the good people....Cannot wait for all of the 2013 adventures!!!

Sent registration papers & $. Since we plan on bringing dog, we'll probably be camping the same place as last year. http://sheltercoverv.com/

Although, the house sounds great.

Abking:  What did they put on the halibut to get the press?  Is that a canvas they used to press the fish with?  That looked pretty cool and would definitely be something nice to remember a big fish..

Noob,
My brother-in-law in Hawaii has several gyotaku prints on his wall - he gave me some rice paper and acrylic paint to try it.  Apparently if you want to eat them later you use water based paint.   Now all I need are some fish. Check out these sites:

Mount St. Helens erupted on this date, 1980!
Like living in black and white...
Ash everywhere. Very fine particulate.
If car windows down or cracked, shed doors open even slightly, the bilge in the boat... ash was everywhere and I lived hundreds of miles from the Mountain.
Gimme Shelter tourney sounds fun and the area is very nice.
I lived in Humboldt Co. in the early 70's and graduated from HSC.
Actually, I was in the first graduating class of HSU.
Lived in Fieldbrook. Worked at the Media Center on campus.
I  regularly visit the area and check the real estate in HC occassionally.
Beauty King salmon gyotaku print in the cafe on the Trinidad pier.
Interesting, as fish with large scales, maxallary, and distinct fin rays make for good detail in this artform.
Always planned to retire in HC.
See y'all there.

I'm looking at going down if I can swing it. I'm on the NCKA site trolling for a buddy/sponsor now.  I use to live in Nor Cal and love the Lost Coast / Shelter Cove area. I was there with the family for 3 days in 2011 camping out. The last time I fished it by kayak was during the fall of 1994. I remember lots of fog, boomer waves and a coast line that demanded respect. It's in my head to get back there...a stroll down memory lane if you will. If I can't convince Brad to head down with me, there will be room in my rig for another.
My understanding is that NWKA members that want to be part of the NWKA Team can get sponsored by the NWKA folks that went last year. You will have to go to the NCKA site to join & sign up.

My wife and I just put this down on our calendar. If I can find a sponsor I will be joining you on the water. Not sure what we will do for accommodations yet.

I've also been entertaining the idea of attending the GS7. My issue is more in the amount of days I'm gone. Is anyone planning on heading down for maybe just Friday, Saturday and Sunday? I may consider leaving Thursday afternoon. Is anyone else limited on time, but interested in attending?
Jammer
let me know if you guys need a sponsor

Sorry - haven't checked in for a while!

It was a many-hands press.  A bunch of us were there and the guy just let us all participate.  The print of the big halibut was after the tournament sponsored Gyotaku that Brandi led on Saturday.  The halibut Gyotaku artist was a local who heard about the big fish caught and showed up at the landing to ask for a print.  Not sure what kind of paper he had, but I think it was a huge form of ricepaper.

That sparked a fond memory of mine, rbchar.  It was just after Christmas in 79 or early 1980 when my mom and stepfather took us on a wild journey where we got close enough to the rumbling and grumbling St. Helens where we would've been wiped off the map if we'd been there a few weeks later...  Hope to see you at the Cove this May.

I'm stoked at the level of involvement from NWKA - see you guys there.  If you have a question or a need please email me as I only come visit this site a few times a month or so.

Looking forward to seeing a dozen or more of you guys at the Cove.   :)
See you at Gimme Shelter

Thanks for putting that up, Paul.  NWKA accounts for about 10% of the registered anglers so far.   :)

Time to think about forming the NWKA Team. Last year we were NWKA Ninkasi. If Ninkasi does us right this year (I think they will), we ought to use the same or similar name. Ideas welcome. I'll volunteer to post up the roster. Who's in?
Please post up your team name and team members for GS7 on the following thread:
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=44709.0

If you are in need of a team, or have a team and need members please post up on the aforementioned team signup thread.

This is "litcherally" six hours away from where I live. There is a slight chance I could do this. Does anyone know of any cheap camp grounds in the area. I know I could google that but I sort of have a hunch that at least one person here could give me a better answer.
