Lot of PG-13 and up going on in the Mr. And Mrs. Lee household between all this talk of ribbed fishing poles and rum leading to lubrication.

It meant missing portions of the head or tail in the pictures

Yeah, makes total sense now when I read the paragraph.  I was thinking about the gilled/gutted wording and it influenced my odd question.

I've never caught a catfish out of a Yak.

You "generally" don't catch many over 25" though.  At least I don't.

What's the largest you've caught, not necessarily out of a kayak?

Does anyone else have any feedback as to what a good PPI for catfish would be?

I grew up down south and fished for catfish all the time.  Biggest one I ever caught on rod and reel was 23" (~5 lbs).  We caught a few bigger than that on a trot line (~10 lbs), but they weren't much longer than my 5 pounder.  Once catfish get to a certain length they just start getting fat, and don't really gain much length.

In my opinion (whatever that's worth) 24" should be 200 points.....that would make it 8.333333 points per inch.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I think a 24" catfish is a pretty nice fish.  There are bigger ones but a lot more smaller ones.

Kenai-guy is right, once they hit a curtain length, they start getting fatter, not longer.

We will find out this year if anybody actually chases them.  I know I will give it a shot.

I know the AOTY rules are already stamped and all official and stuff for this year, so this comment should be seen as looking towards 2014 rule addendum.

I would like to point out a view on a "Sponsored" angler.

I view the concept of a compensated sponsored angler to rank right up there with those that will be disqualified for being "in conjunction" with any guided trip.  The rules for AOTY have all been tailored to reduce or eliminate "advantages" that any angler can have over the next angler and keep the competition only between the angler and the fish.

Right now there isn't any boundaries listed here as to how much compensation could be seen as giving the sponsored angler an advantage that could disqualify AOTY entries.

Consider the possibilities available to sponsored anglers, that fly their sponsor's flag (sticker, hat, etc) and give credit to them for their success.

-Free or highly discounted high end fishing rods/reels/tackle.
-Free or highly discounted kayak.
-Free or highly discounted high end immersion clothing.
-Paid entry fees into tournaments that are available to the public.
-Insider fishing tips and tricks not otherwise available to the public.
-Access to tackle and gear that is not available to the public.

So, what I am saying here in a nutshell is that if a sponsored angler uses any of their sponsor provided items to catch a fish, then it is disqualified for AOTY, as they would most certainly be giving credit to their sponsor in some way that it helped them achieve the catch.  If not given credit,  then the sponsor wouldn't be getting their end of the deal and be associated with a potential win.

Again, this is not intended for the 2013 season, but definitely for future years.

The INSAYN Fishing Team shall hereby be banned from AOTY!!!  Just kidding.   >:D

We thought about have a pro division.  But the numbers of total participants including pros just isn't there to justify it.  Maybe next year.

I would note, for others reading this, that "sponsorships" vary quite a bit, and what you've listed is definitely NOT the norm.  For example, only one of those items listed applies to mine.  Unless you consider $200 off a year old model kayak 'highly discounted'.  Actually, come to think of it, that was purchased before I was approached by my sponsor, so that doesn't count either.

Again, there are no boundaries defined as of today what kind/level of sponsorship that could be accepted or not.

Granted I don't know off hand of anyone that is a 100% setup to catch fish via sponsors, but there are clearly enough on this forum that have to give props to their sponsors for their success, otherwise their sponsors would probably not provide any longer.

In my opinion that ranks right up there with being in conjunction with a guided trip.  The only difference, is that a guided trip may only be a few hours to a few weeks.  Sponsored all year, is an all year deal.
