What about banning fisherman with solid knowledge of any fishing area. Any fisherman that has been given any tips that were not given to all anglers. Any angler that shares an anchor with another angler. Any angler that shares bait with another angler ...  should all disqualified since they have an unfair advantage.

Also anyone giving help to another angler should be disqualified since they are giving other anglers an unfair advantage.

his 36 incher was caught 10 months ago on the Willamette

http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/outdoors/2011/mar/17/oregon-catfish-gives-anglers-pause-swimmers-too/

If that was the standard 200'point catfish...go ahead and make a 100 lb halibut 200 points as well.  I've fished all my life for cats and I don't even know anyone who caught one like that.

No intention of doing that Kenai guy.  Just showing that they do get over 24 inches.

I don't know how the catfish are here but I grew up in TX and most recently moved from VA and they can be really big.. My personal biggest is 50+ lb fish.  The one in the attached picture was 46lbs..  I don't know how long it was though..

I know....just joking around.

All of them can get big, but for the purposes of the competition you have to set difficult yet obtainable goals to strive for.  I've caught lots of catfish in TX, OK, & MD from kayaks and float tubes....none were ever bigger than ~ 20".  From a kayak... A 24-30" catfish would be quite the nice prize, and some pretty good grub too.

I've caught a few catfish from my kayak, by accident with this being the largest: http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=8752.0
This fish came from a small pond, if they can get this big in a small pond, i imagine much much larger coming from places like the BIG C

Water temp and food available is a little different here then in the south.  Fish won't get as big.

At least everybody will have the same opportunity to catch big fish.  If the points are too high, we can lower them next year.

Given NCWFlounderer's proof of a kayak caught 30" NW catfish and the recent 36" catfish from the Willamette I think the 6 PPI (as used by the NCKA AOTY) is probably about right.

If NCKA is using 6ppi  I think it would be a good start.

The rules, species, and PPI have been updated on the main AOTY page.  I've also put the Paypal buttons up.  So time to sign up.

Note that the rules allow for the use of Canoes and SUPs in addition to kayaks.  If there is anything in rule #1 that is not clear, please let us know and we'll clarify it.

Good luck all!

I gotta hand it to the committee, you guys did a fantastic job with the rules. I'm all registered and paid up. Let's do this! :headbang:

Gotta agree with RR; the rules, as they pertain to vessel type, seem well thought out and fair. Hell, I think I'll play. Now that SUPs are game...why not? Might I use my little pronie, though? Jade gonna sweep the paddle-less pikeminnow category. Like a sir.

But if the prone is deemed too offbeat, SUP it is. Or that shiny new camo Ride 115 that is now hogging garage space...
