I guess my question...more specifically.. Would a pack raft be acceptable (NRS or alpaca raft)?  People are allowed to use PA's....and technically they are boats...

This is just for clarification, and not intended as an argument.  I just want to make sure I follow the rules for the tourney.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Would you paddle it like a kayak? Let us (AOTY committee) huddle and make an official ruling.

Yes...same method of propulsion.

The reason I ask...there is a lake nearby with some nice grayling.  However, it's a 3.5 mile hike and 2000 foot elevation gain.  Only way in with watercraft is to hike it in or fly it in via float plane.  No atv's allowed

It's an interesting discussion for us to have, and more than just Alpacaraft.  What about a NuCanoe with an oar kit?  Or a regular canoe paddled with a double bladed kayak paddle.  I have a feeling we'll have quite the debate ahead of us.  Gee, thanks.

Here's a bit of history, in the early days of AOTY, we allowed Pisco Sicko to compete with a rowboat.  Back then, we'd accept almost any human power watercraft.

Sorry for the headache....but I just want to make sure I'm legal.

Any fishing tournaments you could compare rules with? (kayak wars....)

If the answer is yes...I'll make sure to hike up there and catch a grayling, so all of this wasn't in vain.

Not a bad suggestion Ron.  Thanks!   But what is "effectively"?

I have an old 14ft, Grumman canoe I can paddle it from the center seated with a kayak paddle and that would count? There are allot of kayak/canoe hybrids poppin up but I didn't think my canoe would count. it is Much better for me fly fishing and standing.I do use it but have not counted any fish I got from it, and a canoe go's much faster when paddled by kayak paddle as proven by the winners of the Annual canoe race on the eel river the last 5 years, and if so It is alot easyer/lighter to carry then my new tarpon ride115

You point about the kayak/canoe hybrids is something the AOTY committee has already thought of and are discussing.  When does the line between a canoe and a kayak get crossed?  Should we even care?  These and other interesting questions are under consideration.

I like it too. Plus, if Kenai Guy is willing to hike in an inflatable raft and gear 3.5 miles and 2,000 feet of elevation, I say he's earned those grayling points fair and square.

Great new rules... catfish, char, sockeye.. stoked.  Humpys.... not so much.

I would like some clarification on one item from the photo section, "Missing portions of the head or tail will result in a disqualification of the fish."

Is this only referring to the contestant removing parts of the fish, or are fish with naturally occurring deformities due to spawning or other environmental factors included?  Most big mamma bass are going to have beat up tails in early summer.  Whatever prompted the new wording might clear it up for me.

Ready to hit the water and start playing!  Good luck everyone.

It meant missing portions of the head or tail in the pictures.  Yes, we've had pictures that didn't clearly show the head and tail.  We'd like to see a shot of the full fish, and if needed, zoomed in shots of the head and tail to help out in determining the quality of the measurement.  We'll update the wording to make this crystal clear.  Wordsmither Lee will get on it!!!
