I'm not expecting to do much catching. Scouting launches, looking for bait close, and getting more miles on the legs.  If I stay an extra day I might cross over to the islands.

I'm sure I could get two kayaks on my truck but I have to deal with family in Kenai so that's a problem.  I may have a solution. Let me check with the CEO of the house.

Whittier is an option. I caught flounder and small rockfish right off smittys launch in march two years ago.

Okay, we have competition!  News article says 6 kayakers entered.  lol.

My computer is just getting going after crashing.  I think we need to prioritize the bluffs if the weather allows.  Here's the ANchorage Daily News article.

That doesn't include side bets for fish that can surpass the "winning fish" payout.  I have a "no skunk" side bet and plan to enter a few of the other side bets if weather and conditions hold.

Yes sir! Not going to quit my day job but this is definitely pursuit of "fortune and glory" as Indiana Jones might say.

If I won 22k it would be hard not to take a half year break from work. Another thing, money is awesome, prizes are awesome but I would be totally happy with a title belt. You know, like pro wrestlers and UFC fighters have. I would wear it while fishing with pride. It's nerdy but hilarious to me.

Ok, weather will be an issue.  It's too far out to trust but looks like high winds in cook inlet, the bay is better.  The major problem will be the cold. I bet it doesn't  break 32 and its going to be wind chills in the single digits.  Argh....

The weather forecast is often wrong.., please be wrong this time!!!

Working on the options...any thoughts Matt or Andy?

Here's my plan......don't get stuck on a platform and go catch a fish.

But really, I'd like to go try the bluffs.  We have a way to drive over there, so as long as the weather is good.....we stand just as good of a chance there as anywhere else.

Hopefully I'll be able to come to shore Wednesday or Thursday and head to homer Friday.

Just got a message from a tourney cmt member.  Last year they canceled Saturday when a early boat went out to check conditions and it was good in Homer but 7ft and 20knts at the bluffs.  So they went Sunday.

Good news, wind chill forecast has moved up from single digits to 27deg.  HUGE differene.  The inlet forecast currently stands at 4 ft with North 20knts.  The good news is that the bluffs area is somewhat sheltered from the north winds and the spot forecast calls for 1ft Friday evening and 2 ft Sat.  Still a long ways to go but its a huge improvement.  http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=PKZ141

I have to think we have to prioritize the bluffs.  All additional information points to the big fish coming out of that area.  It also is the closest spot from shore of any of the "top locations"

I think the tentative plan we should shoot for is to have Matt bring a 6 wheeler and trailer (I'll pitch in for gas and such) and Andy and I come up with one more.  I think with the incoming tide, we need to head north from Bishop's Beach to at least Bluff Pt.  The 10 fathom line is only  1.2 miles from shore versus 4 miles offshore at the North Boundaries. As the tide pushes us North..., we will have to troll Northwesterly to stay on the 10 fathom line.

We will have plenty of company in the area I think, though I am willing to bet most boats wil be 3 to 4 miles offshore hitting up to 20 fathoms (120ft) depths.  We have a huge disadvntage that we can't run from spot to spot.  But I think we have one advantage that we can cover a general area with three sonars searching for bait and marks maybe a 100 yars apart from each other.  We will need to come up with a few very simple code words for the radio.  No sense attracting a crowd if get lucky and happen to run into a few fish.

Okay, gotta work but getting more excited as the forecast gets a tad better.  Cross your fingers!

Here's a good derby write up on how the payouts work. Wow...pay another 100 bucks or so and the fish could be worth $40 to $50K!!!

I might not make it now.  Damn project at work might bleed over into Saturday.  I will have to make a last minute call on whether or not I can go.

Don't give up hope yet Andy. I'm gonna hunt up some eye of newt to put a spell of cooperation on your boss. (One of the benefits of being a woman of a certain age. Just ask my husband.)
