I have been on the sound a handful of times in it but bay conditions can be a little different.

Yup.  This tourney is not on the bay, it is on the open ocean.  Swell, current, and wind are all stepped up a notch than on the Sound.  These conditions are something you work up to, not jump head first into ... in a SinK.

-Allen
Oh I assumed bay based on the launch point... My kayak will never be an ocean vessel. I have a cockpit the size of a canoe one good wave and I will be sitting on the bottom. It's an awesome small get around kayak but I do need to move up to a SOT for the ocean.

Anthony... I have an SOT for you to use if you are going to make it. I have no problem bringing it for you to ORC. We can talk more about it at the HOW event this Sunday.

   ;D ;D ;D

   Paid up and ready............
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

This looks like so much fun!

I wish i had more saltwater experience in my kayak...makes me nervous crossing Depoe Bay bar in a power boat with a very experienced captain.  Maybe someday i'll grow up to be a real kayak fisherman.

Depoe doesn't have a bar. That's what makes such a great place to learn the salt.

How do two-person kayaks count? Can we enter as a team, or do we each need to enter separately? I'd prefer to enter as a team, because my wife usually outfishes me!  :D

Each person will still need to sign up separate. There's no team play in the ORC. Also, if two peeps are together on 1 tandem kayak, both will need to be signed up. It's not fair to get assistance paddling/pedaling from someone that's just along for the ride. Hope this helps.

This is going to be another great ORC.  It will be good to see everyone and hopefully have a nice day out on the ocean.  I lucked out as this is my most absolute favorite way to fish. I'm certainly not the best fisherman, or kayaker either for that matter, but I usually enjoy myself and keep coming back.  Swells rolling underneath you and the occasional sea lion always keep it interesting.  Whales are cool too.  This should be a lot of fun.  Nice work Jammer.

Off hand... What does a out of state 3 day license and invasive species permit cost?  Where do you get the permit? Is there an inspection?

3 day non-resident is $46.25 and you can purchase it online. An invasive species permit can be purchased at REI, Fishermans Marine and similar stores. I think I paid either $5 or $7 for my permit.

edit:
go here: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/online_license_sales/index.asp to purchase all of it online and have it mailed to you or you can print the invasive permit.

Is there an inspection?
Yes.... There will be an inspection from Lincoln County Sheriff Marine Patrol Friday night back at camp as well as in the morning of the tourney starting at 4AM at the Depoe Bay boat ramp. I was told that EVERYONE will be checked for safety(immersion wear, PFD, whistle) as well as appropriate licenses(Oregon Fishing license, Invasive Species Permit)... They stressed the Invasive Species Permit is Mandatory and will be checked!

$67.50 to get a 3 day angling and shellfish license plus ISP.  This will easily be a $400 trip.
