Now for the news you have all been waiting for.  Next Adventure will be hosting a fundraiser for HOW on Saturday October 19th.  We are resurrecting Next Adventures first fishing tourney to bring you  "Willy Dino II, The Last Dino Hunt*."  Once the tourney page is up and running I will start a thread with more information and a link to sign up but for now I can promise it will be a day filled with burgers, beer, and big trophies.

Awesome, can't wait.

Are there anymore of the "Portland Fishery of the Month" seminars going on?  Haven't seen any post on this in a while...might I suggest we have one focusing on Sturgeon before October 19th?  Could talk about tackle, locations, and anchoring safely...just a thought.

I'll be going out with the HOW crew and will be a George Rodgers park. You all are welcome to join us.

For those who need lead, I will donate a bunch of pyramids to the cause. Not quite sure how to get it out to you before the tourney though. Shipping lead gets expensive.

He's not kidding about the "big" trophies.  The one I got from the Bass Tourney has to sit on the floor because my house only has 8' ceilings.

Was this plan already in the embryonic stage when I suggested the idea of some sort of event out of this?
I'd love to take credit for getting that ball rolling.

There was already a plan for a tourney in October, you helped motivate us to change the date and species.

Speaking of bait---any suggestions on what might be most productive that time of year ?
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

There is no quick answer that I have found.  Sandshrimp worm combo seems to be most popular.  Some swear by anchovy.  Others herring.  Others squid.  And I've seen them caught with all manner of odd bait.  Bring a mix and be ready to switch it up.

I've fished the Columbia far more than the Willamette for sturgeon, but I'd have to 100% agree. I'd throw in that I've had good luck on smelt (in the Columbia) in the fall. I'd suggest having 3-4 solid baits and switch 15 minutes until something hits. I know a lot of guys will say that's too fast. Also I like to move locations a lot when I sturgeon fish until I find a spot where they want to bite, but that's easier said than done in a kayak.

This is going to be a new one for me, what type of anchor system is needed? more than a anchor trolley?

Last year, for me, it was blue brined herring at GR, anchovies in the slough and a smelt and squid combination during the spring. For my Dad, it was anise and old bait.   I agree with Ketapatterns. Switch baits often and move until you find them.
