So what are the dates?  Time may reveal a window in which I might could sorta kinda make it.

Hunting partner had to push some dates back 1 week, so it might be doable

Wife and I may join for a day or two. We are considering a trip to Port Lions, and if it overlaps, we'd join in for a day or so.

Unlike everyone else, I am not going to be going for moose, caribou, elk, or sheep. I'm looking for the much more elusive game: wife-approval.

Ok.  Going stir crazy waiting for this trip.  A part of me says don't rush, end of August means the end of summer.  On the other hand, it seems like its all I can think about!  While I always try to temper my expectations, barring hurricane force winds for a week straight, this has all the signs of being something just EPIC!

So to pass the time, I've been trying to decide on gear and tactics.  Probably more to pass time than something I think is the most effective, I decided to tie up some jigs.  Everything from 1/8oz up to 3oz.  Nothing fancy.  I've learned that the fish don't really seem to care how fancy they are as long as the basics are there.  A few glow in the dark jigs for an experiment I want to try!  A lot of the smaller ones I already had.  GF thinks I am crazy, playing with the jigs like a 4 year old girl plays with dolls.  lol.  Who knows if they will even catch anything!!

Hey, it passes time and frankly I get some enjoyment out of a trip that has yet to even happen!  Woohoo!! I can't wait!!!

I'm in. I'm going. Wife gave me the pass, but unfortunately she has to work and get our kids to school and keep them alive and stuff.

It's really too bad, too, b/c she is the one who has all the luck (I mean...she married me...) and who actually catches all the fish on these trips.

Looking forward to meeting those whom I've not yet met!

I must be amped about this trip.  It's prime Salmon season here and I'm spending the weekend organizing my tackle and gear rather than fishing.  This week is going to take forever!!!

Giant Hooks...Check
Giant Jigs...Check
Flying Gaff...Check

Holding a quiver of 16/0 Circle hooks on 200lb leaders in my hand makes me feel like a bad ass!

Kenai guy, good luck and be safe!  Hope to see ya out there!

Spot,  I'm doing the same thing though the weather is sorta crappy here.

I'm tying jigs and flies I'll probably never use. Doing some research. Until this year, I've never even seriously targeted halibut...even out of a powerboat much.

Trying to be compact. Not working out so well.  I bet I can get away with a gallon ziplock bag of gear...but I'm still after the first cut at about ten gallon bags...lol.

Argh...time standing still.....

If a sea lion does this...freak...I mean get it AWAY from you. Fortunately this is Ketchikan but could easily be Kodiak. Fish eating orcas=fascinating. Mammal hunting orca= you as possible prey. Lol.

Tomorrow is packing day for me.  We should do a jig swap up there.  I'm sure we'll have entirely too much gear!

I've decided not to mess around for the "BIG" ones. I'll still have 8/0 circles on 200# mono but the big hooks like the 14/0 and larger are going to be on commercial gagnon (sp?) line.

I'm sticking to 200# mono.  I also have a 20/0 circle for Mark, who thought maybe the 16/0's might be too small.   :P
