I'm sticking to 200# mono.  I also have a 20/0 circle for Mark, who thought maybe the 16/0's might be too small.   :P

Thanks Allen!  I'll put it to good use.  ;D

Rudy, where to you find the commercial gagnons?  I realized last night that 4 of my rigs only have 100lb test leaders....

I've got a two pound spool of #72 gagnon a. 600lbs test. I'm not messing around. Feel free to take as much as ya need.

A little voice says take the whole spool and handline one up. Maybe I should just focus on catching one on conventional gear first!!!

Yah baby!! Mine goes from 7 to 22!!!!!  Just add excitement like a major Huli!

It can be orally operated as well though I think I prefer the quicker more traditional method....

After further review...by my GF...she advised that perhaps more details are warranted otherwise I might never be able to run for political office ever...or more importantly get banned from this family friendly site.   ??? ??? ???

She suggested that I clarify:

Units: 7 pounds to 22 pounds
Define "traditional method":  Co2 cartridge. secondary inflation through tube (see pic)

and a picture and link....

I'm still clueless as to how this could be construed as anything but a conversation surrounding PFD's but she has been right before so no harm in clarifying...

I too have no idea what Michele could be thinking, but if anyone could call bullshit on you Rudy, I suppose she would be the one.

Ok. Back to terminal tackle...

So you guys are talking about a 16/0 and larger hooks. Take a look below. The "small "hooks you see are 16/0 mustard. The "big" hooks are 14/0 gamakatsu circle and a 14/0 owner super mutu circle hook. A pretty significant gap difference. Especially with the gamakatsu.

So what's in your wallet???

I have the standard Mustads, but always wondered why the smallish gap.

Those Gami's have a huge gap, but not a lot of curve to the circle.  I wonder if that makes a difference.

All are still  XXX Strong wires.  My working theory is that bigger wire takes more force to penetrate.

I agree. I still am going to fish my big river 12/0 J hooks until I start specifically targeting giant fish or we luck into so many I want to catch and release. You could go a third the diameter and still not be the weakest link on 50 to 65 lbs braid.   I wish they made circle hooks this size with wire the same gauge as the big river hooks.

See if you can find the 13/0 L2004's.  I think there is also an L2004EL with even lighter wire, but maybe doesn't go as big.  I can find some online, but only in 50 packs, and I don't need 50 of these.  If you want to order some and have them rush shipped to you up there, I'll buy some off you to offset the cost of 50.

about $1,000 and a plane ticket to kill a few critters.........oh you mean hooks.

8/0, 16/0, & 20/0 circles on 300 lb mono.  If all works out, I'll bring my setup to make more leaders for anyone in need.

Have fun
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them
