Has there been anymore thought about scheduling the Pacific City - Oregon Kayak Classic?  Believe it or not my employer wants vacation requests in 6 months in advance so I was just wondering about the date.  Last year was so much fun I'd hate to miss it.  With travel a potential issue for some, maybe planning early might help?  Just a thought....

We haven't begun any planning on that yet amb. Too bad to hear your work wants vacation that far in advance. It will be on a weekend so unless you usually work them you should be good. I think last year's last week in sept was a little too late. A few weeks earlier would be my choice. First week in Sept.?

One humble request for the 2009 event...would it be possible to have both the Saturday and Sunday open to the contest. Having 2 days would give those that can fish both days more opportunity to fish and those that can only fish 1 of those days a chance at the title as well.

First week in Sept.?

Too close to Moutcha!!!

Are we set in wanting it back at Pac City?  Or perhaps another local on the Oregon Coast is in order?

The only thing I didn't like about the Pac City Classic was the rabbit poop in the campground.  As much as I like Cape Kiwanda, I'll probably go wherever the event is held, cause it really was alot of fun.  Worth the three days vacation I took to get there.

We really lucked out on the weather  at PC last year. That's the only problem I see in having it there again. Of course this applies to just about any place with a surf entry. Depoe bay and Sunset bay both have sheltered entries, so even if it's a little rough on the outside, the tournament could go on. Just my opinion!

Is the Moutcha date even set yet? I'm open to suggestions for other locations. I did like that spot and the campgrounds were awesome though.

I for one would love to see this years Oregon coast classic a Sunset bay.  ;D Depot bay would be my second choice. Are we going to have a vote again this year?
Enjoy the ride!

I would feel for our Washington brothers if the event was at sunset.  That turns it into at least a  7-8 hour drive from Seattle doesn't it?  Its a good four hours plus from PDX.  I am planning a kayak road trip(s) this summer down the length of the oregon coast and Sunset is on my list, but for the event something a tad more north would be nice to keep the drive under 4-5hrs for all involved??

Which brings me to my next line of questions ... there is not going to be something that is optimal for everyone.

I'm thinking about having both a WA and an OR event this year.  IMO, these events should be planned to be the best WA and OR has to offer the kayak anglers.  If a location such as Sunset is superior and works out better for the OR crew, but worse for the WA crew, than so be it.  If the event is worthy, we'll make the drive ... look how far we drive to get to Moutcha.

I think Depoe Bay or Pacific City might the best options for an event in Oregon.  Depoe really isn't any farther than Pacific City for folks driving down from the I-5 corridor.  It's also about mid-way between Coos Bay and Portland.

As for Sunset, frankly, I haven't been impressed enough by the Sunset reports (no offense Roy) to justify the added distance for folks up in Washington.  I think from Portland it might be fine, but at 8 hours the Seattle guys might as well fish Vancouver Island.

I feel the same way about PC, Brian. less consistency of having a nice launch, like GD said you guys got lucky to have the conditions you did and basically the same fishing.

But i also realize that it's way far you guys to drive. I just let you guys decide that stuff, cause the chance of me having extra money to go to any events is hit or miss at best usually anyway.
See ya on the water..

Just thinking outloud ... I can't believe we don't know of a kayak fishing spot on the Oregon coast that has a decent chance of putting out a 10+ pound ling as a derby winner.  Anyone???   ???
