Well the Saturday meetup seems to be coming along but the discussion on the Friday Meetup has gone quiet.

Last I heard it was near the PowerLines upstream of Chinook Landing.

Is anybody still going? What time?  Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Joe,

We haven't met yet.  I am planning on going.  I think that the plan is to meet at Chinook.  I know Craig is tentatively coming, and ihop is launching from the Washington side and meeting us out there.

I look forward to meeting you.

Anyone else?

I'm still planning to go Friday. I think FWCaster is joining me.

What time do we want to meet at Chinook then?

I'm still trying to decide on when I'm driving over, I'm watching the weather.  I'd hate to get stuck because the freeway is closed over here.

I checked the map, that's going to be a crappy paddle up to the fishing spot. lol  oh well.

I've also got a bait problem, i can't get it over here :(  If anybody would hook me up, I'd be more then happy to pay for what I use.

I was thinking about getting some sand shrimp at fishermans.  I have one package of frozen smelt. What kind of bait do you want me to pick up?

In terms of what time to meet,  I am not sure.  I'm kind of a newbie, so I am going to follow someone more experienced out there.  So I will wait to hear, and then decide on time.

Rain (damnit) or shine, I'll be there. Was going to go with Smelt, but decided to go smaller in hopes of catching Shakers and Legal sized for C&R, rather than Over sized. I picked up some Herring and some Anchovies hoping they'll do.
If not, maybe I'll throw the left overs on a pizza  :puke:

Craig, this meetup was your idea to pick up AOTY points. Are you still coming? I'll be at the Camas Marina at 9 am. Anyone else launching there?

I intend to be there.  I will bring plenty of bait. I plan on grabbing some sand shrimp tomorrow.  Any Dick's in the metro area should have them. I have found sand shrimp and a night crawler to be the best.   Thread the night crawler on the hook and up over the shank onto the line.  Then hook on a sand shrimp with the tail through the egg loop.  That is what I have caught the majority of my sturgeon on.  Even the bigger ones.  I also found an old bag of uncooked large prawns, with shell on, in the freezer.  I pulled out about a dozen and they are currently, very lightly, marinating  in a ziplock in my beer fridge.  I shot a squirt of pro-cure sturgeon frenzy and a pinch of mike's shrimp scent into the bag and shook it up.  I don't know if they will work or not, but I want to give it a shot.

As for the time of the launch, I will shoot for a launch at 7:30 a.m.  I plan to leave my house at about 6:30 am.  It is about a 35-40 minute drive.   Dress warm.  Wear your thick wool socks.  Bring layers.  I usually stuff an extra jacket in my hatch just in case.  I usually put it on over the life jacket if I get cold.  Although, Hoppa may have a warming room on his Adventure.    ;)  I am also going to take Rawkfish's advice and grab a pair of wool gloves that the fingers can stick out of.  I went out on a high altitude lake yesterday and the hands got a little cold.

Good luck guys.

Hey Craig, I am a big fan of fingerless wool gloves. I have been using them for more than 25 years, including fly fishing while standing in several feet of snow in air temps in the upper 20s in Pennsylvania.

FYI, last weekend the high was about 40. I wore my woolen long johns, then polartek long johns, then my waders and semi-dry top. Also had on wool socks. I was very comfortable, not too warm. When the wind blew I put on my gloves otherwise I was warm enough that my body felt comfortable pumping plenty of blood to my hands.

For those of you who have never caught sturgeon the plate like scales on them are razor sharp. Wearing gloves while handling them keeps you from looking like an inept butcher. Trust me on this one. After my first two trips my hands barely healed by the next trip. Of course, you may have better self control than me, but when I am catching fish I try to not let my brain get in the way :)

I doubt my brain will get in my way either.

I will have to turn it off to get out of a warm bed at 6:30 and get dressed up to go sit on the water in the rain.

Craig,  as much as it pains me to say so,  I will be ready to launch when you are.

Actually, I missed Ihoppas 9 am time.    Let's try to launch about 8:30.    I may be needing extra sleep to dtox from the tryptophan from the Turkey.

Geeeeesh...You married/family guys (I remember it well :( ). I'll be having the Breakfast Platter at IHOP's, and not the fishing legend, the restaurant in Vancouver.

OK, I'll be ready to launch from Camas at 8:30, it takes about 45 minutes to rig my beast so I'll arrive at 7:45. FWCaster is driving all the way down from Federal Way to join me. I was going to pick up some herring so we'll have some variety out there.

Trying to decide if I bite the bullet and buy an Ugly Stik Tiger (saw one a Bi-Mart for $55 today) or just use my 8' Salmon rod with the 30# braid.

I"m not sure when I'll be showing up.... because I havn't decided when I'm leaving town.
If the weather isn't supposed to be too crappy, I'll leave here about 2am.  If the weather looks like it will be real bad, I'll leave thursday afternoon and grab a hotel in Troutdale for the night.  We shall see.

Either way, I'll be at the launch around 7-7:30am.

I've got some frozen 51-60 ct uncooked shrimp in my freezer. I use it for steelhead, will sturgeon go for it too?  I could unthaw a bag.

I am planning on making out with ya all.  Just got the THULE put on the car so we will see how the revo rides out there on it for the first time.   :-\. I will be coming from forest grove so I am not sure how long it will take to get there but I would imagine about 1.5 hours at the least.
PROGRESS IS JUST BEING THERE!
