maybe i wrote it, then got distracted & forgot to hit the post button.
Abk - there any yurts at the campground? i could rough it but s.o. might come & would like to provide some waf creature comforts. got an e- flier for this event you could send? That might help when i check with Ninkasi to see if they'd contribute some goodies. Kinda liking the NWKASI moniker idea. Dana - wanna dive for abs while we're down there? Might also like to caravan down with some others.

No yurts that I know of, PNW - there are hotels and inns all around.  Campground = about $40/night for a small site or $20/head/night in the group area they give us.  Cheapest hotel is right by the launch and fish cleaning station and was just over $100 last I knew.  As for an e-flier, I don't have one.  I refer people to the main tournament thread at NCKA:

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,35334.0.html

I'm keeping it somewhat hard to find for the general public in that they will at least have to go check out NCKA and what the vibe is all about before they can sign up.  This doesn't lend to the most appealing mode of seeking sponsored donations, but that's fine - my main aim is to keep it "in the family", and I use tournament funds for prize acquisition as well as soliciting smaller prizes from a couple dozen manufacturers.  I'd be happy to include donated items you can bring, but no problem at all if not.  Thanks!   :)
See you at Gimme Shelter

PNW, you most certainly could caravan down with Yaksurf and I.  We plan to leave his house on that Thursday morning.

I reserved a tent site (#19) at the campground yesterday w/no hook ups.  It works out to $33 per night for the first two adults, then would be $10 per adult that may join that particular site.  They have a $10 deposit on the bathroom/shower key as well.

PNW- A caravan would be great.  I'm hoping to dive for abs on Friday conditions permitting.  I'm not sure I'll be able dive after that INSAYN wants leave early Sunday.

We need some more NWKAers for team NWKASI

The sites are very small - a truck, a tent, and two kayaks will likely be maxing out your square footage.  That's why they give us a big common area and charge $20/night/person.  No problem if you want to stay in a small site outside the designated group area, but beware of how small the sites are and that the owner would rather we stay in the group area than overflow the boundaries of a small site.
See you at Gimme Shelter

Eric, you mentioned the group common area earlier, but to the effect that they may extend the offer again this year.
If you could get confirmation on this, it's still early enough that I can change reservations.  I'm all for group camping.

Where is this common area located compared to the campground, and restroom/shower building?

I'm going to be pulling a small trailer that doubles as my tent.  Is the common area open to vehicles as such?

The group area is the entire northeast corner of the campground, and I was told they are offering the same deal this year.  Your rig will fit in nicely at the group area.
See you at Gimme Shelter

What route are you guys planning on? The group site sounds ok to me. Maybe YS won't mind camping. Those details still getting ironed out. Gotta read up on those Cali regs to develop some team strateegery.
Gonna bring my freedive gear & gotta get another ab iron (please don't ask).
CBY - hope you can make it.

I would think that South on I-5 to Grants Pass, then West on 199 to Crescent City, South on 101, and then West on Briceland Thorn Rd/Shelter Cove Rd.

At this point Yaksurf and I will be carpooling down in my Tacoma.  If more folks decide they are going and want to carpool down with us, we can take both of our rigs, and have a kayak capacity for at least 5 provided Yaksurf pulls his John Deer trailer down, too.

That is definitely the best route, IMO.

I've found when driving to Fort Brag that it's fastest easiest route.

Glad to see some NWKASI members heading down to Cali for this. Nor-Cal is probably the best rockfishing on the west coast. The NCKA boyz are a good crew, knows how to party, and all around good dudes. I wish it was closer. :'(

Terry, I hope we can see you guys at the ORC again this year.
