I thought I might try to find a springer in the Willamette or MC this week. Has anybody given it a try yet and how has it gone? Any advice?

Hey there Daveo! I was wondering if you were going to show back up! How many Springers did you pick up last year, was it eight? I remember you were on fire toward the end of the season.

Very good reports coming out of the Willy as of late, tons of boats between downtown and Ross Island this morning. Nate picked up the first NWKA Willy Springer and I believe the first Columbia Springer also. :o

Get out there and give it a shot! I'm hoping to get out sometime this week, but I'm still trying to kick a nasty chest cold. I'll probably head for Willamette Park but let me now when you hit the water.

Hi Noah. Yes I had a good year last year for it being my first year of kayak fishing. I got 8 springers. My buddy John ended in the fall with a total of 12 from his Hobie Outback! We had so much fun it shouldn't be legal!

We are thinking of trying the Willy or the MC tomorrow. I hope it is not too wet. Another buddy was in the MC today and saw some fish taken. He got a nice one himself.

Have you been out yet this year?

I am going to try the Willamette this afternoon (should be off work by 4pm)

Not sure if I will launch at OMSI or Sellwood/Willamette

I've been on the water a bunch and for this time of year its really slow in the Willamette. Guides are fishing all day with 5 rods for only a couple fish.  Clarity has been bouncing around a bunch.  Places that should be putting out good numbers are barely smoldering along.  Here's hoping theres more coming or they turn on as temps and clarity improve.

Took my usual lunch walk today at work and saw a beauty landed just under the Hawthorne bridge - dead center of the river.  Catch 'em up folks.

I'll be at Sellwood tomorrow at 3 if anyone wants to watch me catch fish.  I'll even show you my rig and give away my not so secret techniques.

Think I'm going to hit the Willy tomorrow as well.  Planning on being at Sellwood around 3 to fish with ndogg and possibly Stevehawk.

Daveo - I got all day to fish and would love to meet up if you were so inclined.  Think I could stand to learn a thing or two from a guy who bonked 8 last year.

Tomorrow we may try a new area for us, at the Rocky Point launch on the MC. A buddy caught one there today in 6' of Water. This tells me the water flow must be high enough that the fish are sticking to the shallows along the edges.

Yes, but its been on the slow side. Sunday one fish, Monday all day nothing.  Today, I fished closer to home and was done a bit before 10am both on sand shrimp.   Tomorrow, lower river out of the kayak.  Anyone else notice how small the fish are running this year, lots of peanuts..  Isn't declining average fish size a sign of seriously compromised fish populations?  Thought I remembered reading about something like that in college pertaining to northeast cod stocks.

Bennicus, you are very welcome to join us at Rocky Pt. on the MC at about 7 am tomorrow.  We have never fished here before but want to learn about some new water this year. If we succeed I will post a photo or two.
