Barking up the right tree, Hopper. My current fave:  half bunch dinosaur kale, 3 celery stalks, 3 medium carrots, small handful of chard, 3 mandarin oranges, one green apple, and one lime. That'll put a pep in your step. Always juice the leafy greens first; the other ingredients work the green liquid through the juicer.

Looks filthy, but tastes great:

down to 273 from 294 since i left Charleston and have been actually doing physical work. Taking it easy on pertion sizes, Junk food is almost completely out of the diet., grilling/ broiling  not frying.

having to be careful of the lower back, trying to get the weight down first before i start going into heavy duty strengthening and work outs.

finally up to 2 mile round trip walks without feeling taxed, so am doing something right.

will check back in periodically to update.

Made some time to play in the surf at Hobuck last weekend. Friday was small surf, fun to ride but not very challenging. Saturday in the PM the surf picked up and I got a good thrashing coming in on a ~5' wave.

After dropping off fishing gear/fish, I went back to the surf and was looking for the same size of wave that dumped me before. I didn't have to wait long and as kayak went sideways and I leaned into the wave but did not brace properly and I went into the drink. Back I went and I swam yet again, falling into the wave. Time was running out as I needed to get ready to leave the campground but I wanted one good ride. The next good-sized wave came in and I rode it for a while before I turned sideways, this time I leaned into the wave just enough and braced enough to stay upright.

Bracing a 16' SOT going sideways is a lot of work, I left Hobuck exhausted from the surf above all else.

269 today.
Watching what i eat, mostly simple portion control. High reps of low weight, twisting and turning, still being careful of the caged and fused spine.

Just realized; this may be coming off too fast for my own safety. Still not sure why its accelerating lile this. Any tips?

Great thread. Good work on the weight loss Oly and Rich!.

I reached my goal weight of 200 pounds last week, down from 280 about 2 1/2 years ago! Time for a new goal, 190, then it's just maintanance from there. The best way to lose weight is slow and steady, crash diets and starving yourself fail every time!

Been juicing  the last 4-5 months and i feel that was key to losing that last stubborn 20 pounds.

my juice:

3-4 leaves Kale
handful baby spinach
two red apples
two green apples
two large oranges
two stalks celery
half a cucumber
thumb size piece ginger
half a lemon
grapes when they got 'em

That makes enough for two mornings and i have a piece of wheat toast with real butter on it(never give up my real butter)

I still eat greasy food and red meat but not as often as i used to. Of course fish 2-3 times a week and steamed veggies instead of fried. I was seriously addicted to sugar but haven't bought a bag of sugar in months and can't remeber the last time i had a candy bar, which is a miracle for me! I don't even misss it. Of course being diagnosed borderline diabetic gives you a little extra motivation for losing the sugar.

I feel better then i have in years !!
See ya on the water..
Roy

WR, a 274 to 269 fluctuation is just that - a fluctuation.  Error bars, if you will.  I wouldn't worry until you have multiple weeks of 6+ pound drops.  Even then...if you feel OK, keep on trucking with your new healthy lifestyle.

Good on ya, Roy.  That's rad.  Kale squeezin's do wonders for how a man feels. Swap out some of that fruit for some Swiss chard, and you'll really be buzzin!

Fitness took a crap shoot last week, though I did manage to exercise while I was in South Carolina the previous week.

Eased myself back into it last night, with a 22 minute cardio session (340 calories)

It's winter time.   This thread needs a wakeup call.  Sitting around eating cheetos all winter isn't going to get you where you want to be.

I'm pretty sore from Monday's workout:

10 minute elliptical at 12 resistance (HR 145 to 165)
2 minutes of TRX jump squats  (basically using straps to hold body at 45 degrees and jump)
2 minutes of push ups
1 minute plank
1 minute side plank (each side)
50 yard lunges with 2x 25# plates
pullups
2 minutes tire flips  (tire is ~24 inches wide and 4 feet high)
1 minute on ropes  (3 inch diameter rope)

Repeat.

Lots of gnar-gnar in that workout.

Yesterday was my standard routine:

3 sets dumbell press 85# each arm
alternating with dumbell rows using same weight
3 sets lateral pull-downs 120, 135, 150#
3 sets dumbell curls with 32.5#
alternating with overhead press using same weight
3 sets chest fly with 35# dumbells
22 minutes HIIT on the elliptical  2 minutes at 160+ HR, 1 minute slow, repeat

Ah, youth...

My routine: tennis 3-4 times/week (1.5-4 hrs each). Swim 1-2 hrs/wk. 1 hr session with trainer (TRX, etc.). Occasionally drop into stretch, yoga or spin class. Wrestle with ten year old grandson 30 minutes.

The hardest part is not overeating.

The hardest part is not overeating.

Isn't that the truth?!

I turned 35 last week.  Day before my birthday, my 10 year old went to the gym with me.  Probably my best birthday present.
