Just missed this on eBay

What is it?

1966,351w,m5od,205....3.5" lift, 2" body, 37/13/15 boggers

Uhhhnnn looks like a Mercedes Gelandewagen utility... aka G60, i think. That configuration is pretty rare outside of South America and Europe.

Isaac, were there any Pinz Gauers listed there too??

No Gauers...

The truck is/was a Mercedes Benz G500 AMG. Then it had a lil work...

Custombuild for my German customer, this oversized G500 pickup truck conversion measures a little over 6.3 meters (248 inches) in length or some 210mm more than a Rolls-Royce Phantom Long Wheelbase limo!

It also stands 2.2 metres (86.6 inches) tall and 2.25 metres (88.6 inches) wide, while it tips the scales at 2,800kg (6,173 pounds) empty.

The factory fitted US spec 5.0-liter V8-powered model is finished in a menacing matte black color and rides on special 38 inch Mickey Thompson off road tires.

The interior has not been touched, is original in black leather with electric heated seats, heated front screen. and features the same amenities and space as the regular US spec G500 up to 2003

The armored 3 door version of the gelander was our vehicle in Afghanistan when we upgraded from isuzus.

Did you make anymore headway on finding a new kayak transporter?

Not yet.. Checked out one forester but thought it was priced a little too high. Then I got busy and haven't got back to looking yet. One of these days :)

This is still a great thread so to keep it rolling my Tacoma double cab is going to be traded. I really love everything about it but the mileage (16-20mpg) and trying to move around the city are getting tiring. Through this thread and other research I'm most likely going Subaru. Reliability, mileage, affordability , 4X4 powers, value retention, size, made in USA, fun to drive, are looking pretty good. Too bad we don't get any diesel versions.

Nice call on looking at Subaru's Zee. I've owned 2 over the years and put 100's of thousands of miles on them with minimal expense. My tundra kills me on gas(13-18 MPG). My wife and I recently bought a Prius that I finally had fitted with kayak racks. I will be using that for sure for long distance trips or the coast. I will still need to use my Tundra for the sand at PC and other Oregon beaches or when I'm towing my kayak trailer. I'll post up some kayak/Prius pictures soon. Post up some pics of your new wheels when you get them.

How i know the feeling. Old Paint, my 13yro F150 has been a great truck, but without a lot of add ons to her [i'm a member of 2 V6 F150 sites] the 17mpg is killin me. When am back on the feet financially, looking seriously at a used Fusion Hybrid. The truck will become a tuner project vehicle. Who knows, maybe i can bring it back to her early glory at 24 mpg w/ a 3000lb load on her.

Had bought Squidgirl a '02 model LL Bean Edition Legacy w/ the V6 but honestly i could never get comfortable behind the wheel of it, nor could i find a seat height that allowed me to actually see out the windshield. Normally i'd end up with the upper seam of the windshield/roof line right about nose level. Don't know how you taller guys do it, but that turned me way off from Subies.

I talked my gfriend into a new '09 Forester. It's a very nice ride. However, for roughly the same money, I now think the VW tdi wagon is a better engineered car and gets much better mileage.

My Uncle ('12 tdi wagon) drives like a madman, and still gets 39 mpg.

Even with my 17-20 MPG in my Tacoma, I wouldn't be ahead by trading it off for a newer vehicle that even gets 40mpg.  My Taco has been paid off for 11 years now.

I would like an ol' diesel Caddywagon though to tinker with.  They go for around $5-7kish and get 45-50 mpg, with a small truck bed to boot!

If I had $100,000 laying around there is no question I would acquire a custom-made sportsmobile.   For my active lifestyle!
