Could any of us really let our biggest fish go without at least a photo as proof? I seriously doubt that I could.

I do it all the time if there's any chance that dawdling will hurt the fish.
Christmas Eve I landed one of my most memorable native steelhead.  Huge, purple chrome, thick as a chinook but dead tired at the end of the fight.  Camera was in my chest pocket.

-Spot-

Sunday I landed my personal best Steelhead ever.  At least 3 feet long and well over 15lbs.  I'm not calling it 20 but it was the biggest steelie I've ever seen in person.  After more than a quarter mile and 30min of chasing the huge buck down, under, around and thru bedrock pocket water I finally managed to coax it into shore.  Even though it was a hatchery fish, given how colored up it was and the fact that it was the most 'worthy' steelhead I've had the pleasure of tangling with, I pulled the hook and immediately sent it on its way.  No pics needed.

I have a newfound respect for the broodstock program.

I plan on fishing/hunting more with friends and family, enjoying my time on the water and meeting new people!

As for the pictures...

That's why I take IHOP. He remembers to take the darn things. (Thanks Bud)

I always get caught up in the moment and forget to bring out the camera. When the bite is on I am compelled to get my line back in the water. Therefore, no pictures only memories.

It wouldn't be a fishing tale if it had been caught on tape :)

One word..... No...

PS - I was bank fishing.  My buddy already told me I looked like an idiot chasing all over the river to avoid getting broken off on rocks and threading my rod thru logs.  His favorite part was when I had to float thru a section of deep water as the spool started showing on my reel.  The helmet would only have given him more fuel.  Lol!

My goals for the year:

1 catch three springers
2 land a 35"+ ling
3 place in the top 10 at ORC
4 catch some bass and trout
5 catch at least one fish a month

Number 5 because I fell off the face of the earth around August last year.

Nice goals! I would like to catch a couple salmon and get out more often.

Are you back home already? Or are you posting from the water? You're never going to catch three springers if you give up that easily.

You're not going to be able to get out on the water if you don't get done with all your work. If you spent more time doing work at work and a bit less posting you might get home before 9 and have some more points built up.

The image immediately popped into my head of Brad Pitt's hand holding the fly rod pops out of the water after he fell in the river chasing that big fish on A River Runs Through It.  :D

Yeah, just like that.  Slow mo with sparkling water droplets and everything......  ::)
Interestingly, I did find a picture of that.

Kayak Goals fopr 2013

1) Meet some new people make some new friends  and have a good time on the water
2) Catch ANY fish from my Kayak in Oregon (just moved to Oregon from Michigan excited to catch any fish at this time)
3) Catch my first salmon from a kayak
4) Catch some salt water fish especially (Ling, Rockfish, Halibut)

If I can accomplish these goals for 2013 it will be a great first year in the Pacific NW

It's not the destination, but the Journey that makes life interesting!
