The smallest size holds 750 yards of 50 pound braid ... are you just trying to spend as much money as possible?

What about an Avet SX Raptor?

Nothing you are doing is epic. Just using a cow tuna gear to fish for sturgeon from a kayak.

What about a Mac? What size are you looking at?

+1 on these. I got a chance to play with one of these and they are SWEET!
It's on my list of future purchases for sure.

easy there champ. What isn't epic about a completely custom and unique sturgeon rig that will last a lifetime. I'm entitled to purchasing and owning expensive top of the line equipment. Besides I also feel in my conquest for monster sturgeon (8'+) from a kayak I would love to have something I can defiantly depend on and not to mention look damn good doing it.

Family member use the larger VS series on two charter boats he runs.  I think they are very similar to VSX models for the most part.   Other that some of the older V series they still have,  they are about the only high dollar large 2-speeds that I have used so can't really give any "compared to" feed back.
Only thing that really stood out in my mind was the smaller reels they use for stand up fishing.  The adjustable clickers can go from hard to hear to the loudest I have ever heard on a reel.
Other than that, they just have that precision fit and finish of many makers of quality reels.

I have to admit I am also wondering why you would be interested in an offshore featured reel for sturgeon.  Granted I have made a few "form over function" purchases with fishing gear myself.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Mostly interested in the customize your reel option in the penn website. I'm on a custom kick of sorts, it's all about unique and original. I've always liked my gear to stand out from the rest. And super curious as to how an off shore reel performs against these Fraser river monsters.

I'm personally enjoying this thread.  Sure, you could get away with a tiger stick and an $100 reel, but I get it.  Sometimes having the best gear you can get - even if it's overkill - is part of the fun.

And for "reel" customization, send that reel to Cal and have him blueprint it.
