Is there a backup location planned for...just in case? Should we bring freshwater gear as well?

Dry weather would be sweet... but if the interior heats up then we have a strong offshore breeze kicking in.
What are the local effects around Depoe in this situation?

Actually, if the interior heats up, we'll have strong On-shore winds by mid-day.
The predominant summer wind direction is North.  On an average mid-June day, you could expect that the morning will be calm and that by noon a pretty consistant wind would be blowing out of the NNW.  Plan your attack accordingly.

We haven't planned for a back-up venue but there are several available.

The inside of the jetties in Newport were fishable last year even though the ocean conditions were awful.
Summer Steel will be in the Siletz.
There are several lakes nearby with Bass and Trout.

But, we won't need any of these right?  Right?!?   :-\

Ok, so spell this out a bit :

if all these things fall into place, what does the water surface actually look like? swells to 9 ft at 2 seconds? nice flat calm and breezy? washing machine on agitate?  :dontknow:
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

It'll look like what it looks like.

There are a lot of factors that will make the final determination.

On an average summer day, after 11:00AM or so your drift is dictated by the wind direction and chop does the jigging for you.   ;D

I've been biting my lip on this one, and wasn't gunna bring it up again after suggesting back in Februaryish that we should be planning the primary and backup at the same time, so that everyone had time to prepare or purchase gear for either venue well ahead of time.

At this point if the ocean gets blown out, well.... it's blown out, and I vote we just turn it into a NWKA camping trip and hold onto the prizes for next years ORC.  Maybe have the entry fees stay in lockdown for next years event, or transfered to other NWKA events this year.

Whoops - thanks for catching that. I had some brain dyslexia. Anyway, no matter - the latest forecast models are dropping any mention high pressure setting up next weekend, so heat will likely be a non-issue.  Mild, cool, onshore flow is likely.

I totally agree!   Only option, other than the ocean,  that I would entertain would be the Newport Jetties.  If it shakes out like last  year I'll be sleeping in and finding breakfast in town.. ;D

I don't like the idea of spending my time getting my gear in order for ground fish on the ocean, only to go and target a completely different species in a completely different setting.

I also have my mind set on a salty adventure, it's Depoe or if I have to, Yaquina Bay around the end of the jetty fingers (south side).  I am really feeling optimistic about Depoe though.  Unfortunately my fishing partner is getting squeezed by work (good if you have a job) but he may not make this one.

I don't go alone, so if anyone needs/want a partner just let me know.
If My Buddy makes it, we can make for a 3 person group if anyone is interested and needs partners.

This cam at Depoe is great, check out this mornings view.  www.trollerslodge.com/oceancam.php

I realize that sponsors would not be too happy with this....
But just my $.02 I guess

I don't know, if I were a sponser I'd want to know that my donations went towards what I gave them for originally. I'd be happy if I knew that the items were not just auctioned off, or given away willy nilly just because the venue was cancelled due to nature.

Anyone hear from Zee lately?  I brought on a new donor/donation last week, PM'd him, and haven't heard back.  His last active day was the 8th and last post in May.

Went to register Chris and I and the link on this page the other day and got an error.  Now it's all wigged out.  http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,4485.0.html returns an error.  Tried registering with the link in the sidebar and it wants to send payment to "madness@theslayride.com"

If anyone else used the sidebar link did it get accepted?  Just kinda paranoid about making payment if it's not Zee or someone official and that it may have been hacked.

I see Spot is modifying the prizes on that page.  Please get with me ASAP.
