We are signing a waiver before we launch to preclude NWKA from liability; providing a safety 'yak could give the perception of implied liability.

Gooooood point!

To the point that Yarjammer made:

This will be an ocean fishing contest.  Every competitor must be ready willing and able to take care of himself/herself regardless of the conditions.  I don't expect a huge pucker factor but be realistic about your abilities before you paddle out.

- Some people will be happy to fish the hole inside the reef
- Some people may be shooting for points, ledges and shelves up to a couple of miles away

We're all adults and we all assume responsiblity for our own actions.

That said, I haven't met one of you who wouldn't sacrifice everything in your yak to ensure the safety of another.

I can't remember if this is the thread we were taking the guest headcount in or not, but my family has decided to join me.  Count me as a +2.

Nevermind... they decided not to come.  :-\

Does anyone know if the group camping site has any tree cover or is it literally a big open field?  My dog wants to know if he needs to bring his own shade.

Just wanted to give those brothers from coming down from Washington a heads up reminder to make sure you have taken your ODFW rockfish identification test, and have your certificate with you.

Folks from Oregon took the quiz sometime over the last couple years on site when we were issued our license. If you are a Oregon license holder, you already have one(one time quiz not a yearly thing, remember the questions the nice lady asked you when you bought your license a couple years ago) so no worries ;D.

But if your from out of state make sure you hit the ODFW site and get yours!  The "Man" loves to write fat tickets to "out of staters" who don't have their Rockfish ID certificate pinned to their lifejackets.  ;D

I just assumed you could get one online, I mean what can't you find online these days.  For us its a "point of sale" only thing.  Might be the only way they are doing it now.  Just ask the POS clerk for your rockfish identification quiz/certificate and they will know what you need to do.

It's kind of a meadow, not very many trees except in the picnic area by the store.

Lee I agree with you but I'm still gonna say AYFKM!!!  That's a crock of  :pottytrain4:.  They didn't make any mention of this last year when I came down and bought my license nor does it say anything about it on the ODFW website where it talks about licensing or the regs (at least the multiple times I have read them I haven't seen anything about a test).

Sorry "test" may have been a strong word.  The POS clerk will show you a placard with pictures of rockfish on it and ask you to identify the protected species.  Here's a hint, just pick the orange ones ;D

Some places are more diligent about remembering to offer this.  Bigger places like Freddies or Wally World often have folks who are not as dialed in as to what you will need compared to actual local sporting goods stores.  Not a huge deal, it only takes a couple minutes and its a one time fee.

Just print pg. 104 of the regs. in color.  laminate it and bring it with you.  While your at it print out pages 15 and 16 for salmon species identification.  Will come in handy in either state.

Fee?  How much is that gonna run me?  I just spent 30 minutes searching the ODFW site again and there is no mention of said quiz.

Just be thankfull that you can borrow an invasive species permit and don't have to take the invasives test yourself.  The test cost as much as the permit and they want to inspect your kayaks kanuter valve and your paddles thompson strut to ensure they're up to code.  What a pain in the arse!
